Castleton - the small village with lots to do...
As the name suggests, there's the 11th
century Peveril Castle to explore as well as the famous caverns. Visit the
enormous Peak Cavern or perhaps take an underground boat journey in
Speedwell Cavern? There are six traditional country pubs in the
village as well as tearooms and shops. There's also the
state-of-the-art visitor centre. Castleton is also the ideal place to
stay to explore the beauty of the Peak District, with Mam Tor (the
shimmering mountain) overlooking the village. Everything is within a
few minutes' walk from Fern Cottage.
Throughout the year there are special
events including the Garland Day celebration in May and the fabulous
Christmas lights – followed by carol singing in Peak Cavern!
Castleton is also a fantastic base for
exploring near by attractions such as Chatsworth House, Buxton and
Bakewell. Sheffield and Manchester are within easy travelling
distance. |
